Description

This is my first work that I have completely done with computer (without any programs that can create scenery with a push of a button). I'm just learning how to do these things because I have only worked with pencils before and only as a hobby.

I have always liked space pictures so now I tried to do one by my self. I wanted this picture to have a "real" feeling to it so I needed a real satellite model. The satellite is Deep Space 1 satellite from NASA. All the credits for that model should go to the original artist.

This is what Deep Space 1 could encounter after travelling some tens of thousands of years!

Done with PS7 + mouse ~25h
(Thanks to Greg Martin for his Planet Tutorial)

I hope you like it!

the structure of the big planet in front is really good. the small grey planet on the right looks a bit like a disc.. there's too less depth in it.
although i'd say the whole image would look better if there weren't those masses of little stars reflecting all the light and brighten the picture too much. perhaps instead of the starfield on the lower left corner a part of a corona?!
good job for first digital work !

Nice job on your first piece of digital art! I like the large planet in the forground and the orange planet in the background! I think Linus made a few good points above, if you can do soemthing with them for your next piece I'm sure it will be fantastic!

Well done! :)

PS - Welcome to GFX!

I thought you may have referred to the famous Greg Martin tutorial. ^_~ but who cares, nice work.

You could maybe add other colors of starglow that would add depth and such. Also, the lens flare between orange and grey planet looks like it comes from grey planet and it disturbs me a bit.

Oh and try not to use lens flares at all.. if you do, get rid of those ugly circles it creates..

I'll just point out for Maximilian's and Dwale's reference, that the craft would have trouble burning things so visibly in the vacuum of space, and that in order to remain in orbit, no forward motion is necessary. It's an equilibrium.
